14-Year-Old Boy Trampled in Morgan Park Carnival Brawl: REPORTS

Over 100 people, mostly teenagers, started fighting during a carnival at Marshfield Plaza in Morgan Park, police said.

CHICAGO, IL -- A 14-year-old boy was trampled after a massive brawl broke out Saturday night during a carnival at a Morgan Park shopping center. Participants in the fight numbered 100 and several stores were closed for safety, reports said.

Chicago police responded to a “large disturbance” around 7:30 p.m. of a fight in progress in the 11700 block of South Marshfield in the Morgan Park neighborhood. NBC 5 Chicago reported that as many as 100 people were involved in the brawl, which spilled into nearby stores.

Fire officials said a 14-year-old boy was knocked unconscious and trampled during the brawl. He was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the fight remains unknown. Witnesses said that groups of people started fighting after a man flashed a gun, according to NBC 5 Chicago. The fight gained steam about people began posting about it on social media.

The participants were mostly teenagers, who ran into nearby stores and started taking merchandise. Several people were seen being taken away in handcuffs, CBS 2 Chicago said.
