18-Year-Old Charged In Christmas Eve Armed Carjacking

Chicago police said the 18-year-old man was identified as a participant in an armed carjacking of a 69-year-old man.

CHICAGO — An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a vehicular hijacking on Christmas Eve that happened in the 9400 block of South Ashland Avenue. Dario Lopez has been charged with two felonies and one misdemeanor.

Lopez was identified as one of the participants that took a vehicle from a 69-year-old man by gunpoint on Dec. 24, police said. The group fled in the man’s car and crashed a few blocks away on the 1900 block of West 94th Street.

Police said Lopez ran away from the accident scene but was apprehended moments later by Chicago police officers.

Lopez is being held on $250,000 bond in Cook County Jail. He is charged with two felony counts of aggravated vehicular hijacking and unlawful use of a weapon, and misdemeanor leaving the of an accident. He’s due back in court Dec. 29.
