2 Charged In Morgan Park Attempted Robbery, Shooting Of Man In Chest
An 18-year-old South Holland man and his juvenile cohort are accused of shooting a 22-year-old man when he wouldn't hand over his property.

CHICAGO — A South Holland man and a 17-year-old juvenile are charged in the attempted robbery and shooting of a 22-year-old man early Saturday morning in Morgan Park. Sources tell Fox 32 Chicago that the victim is the son of a Chicago police officer.
Christopher Brooks, 18, is charged with participating in the robbery. He’s facing felony counts of attempted robbery and armed discharge of a firearm causing bodily harm. Brooks is also charged with aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm and attempted first degree murder.
The 17-year-old male has been charged with the same felonies as a juvenile.

Just before 2 a.m. Saturday, Chicago police said Brooks and his 17-year-old accomplice approached the 22-year-old man, who is from the North Side, in the 11000 block of Western Avenue, Chicago. Police said a confrontation ensued and the North Side man was shot in the chest, police said. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in fair condition.
Chicago police canvassed the area for video footage and reviewed local license plate reader cameras. The juvenile was taken into custody later Saturday in the 12700 block of South Western Avenue. Brooks was picked up in South Holland, police said.

The 17-year-old was identified as the one who pulled the trigger after taking his belongings, and Brooks is charged with participating in the incident, according to police. Brooks has a bond hearing Monday afternoon at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building.

Matt O’Shea (19th) said in an email to residents. “These arrests send a clear message that violence in our community will not be tolerated. I'd also like to thank the many business owners and residents who came forward to assist the Chicago Police Department with video footage. This evidence was invaluable to the investigation.”
