2 Cops Injured In High-Speed Chase Down Western Avenue
Police were chasing a car wanted in connection with a homicide reported minutes earlier near 80th and Emerald.

CHICAGO — Two Chicago police officers and the driver of another car were injured Wednesday night at the tail end of what neighborhood residents described as a "high-speed" police chase down Western Avenue in the Beverly and Morgan Park neighborhoods.
Chicago police say that a marked squad car was headed southbound on Western near 118th Street in Morgan Park at 7:14 p.m. in pursuit of a car that was wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred a few minutes earlier in the 8000 block of South Emerald Avenue in the city's Gresham neighborhood.
Another car, which was headed westbound on 119th Street, struck the driver's side of the squad car in the intersection of 119th and Western, police said. Two officers were taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital for minor injuries and were listed in stable condition. They were later released from the hospital. The driver of the other car involved in the crash was taken to Metro South Hospital for minor injuries and was also listed in stable condition.

The car police were chasing was not struck and the driver continued southbound on Western into Blue Island.
Police said a 19-year-old man was the victim of the Gresham homicide and a 26-year-old man was also injured in the shooting. The 19-year-old was shot in the chest and the 26-year-old in the leg when a car pulled up to the car they were seated in around 7 p.m., according to police.
