CHICAGO — Five people were taken to area hospitals after they apparently overdosed Sunday afternoon at a Mount Greenwood bar, Ald. Matt O’Shea (19th) said.
Around 2:30 p.m., dispatch reports shared with Patch said the Chicago Fire Department responded to several overdoses at Lawlor’s Bar, 3636 W. 111th St., on the city’s South Side. OSF-Little Company of Mary Medical Center and Advocate Christ Medical Center were treating patrons who were stricken, who were brought to both hospitals in fair to serious condition.
The five bar patrons were all men, ages 37, 42, 41, 41 and 46, police said.

O’Shea said he was notified by the Chicago Fire Department around 2:45 p.m., moments after police and paramedics rushed to the scene. The bar was immediately closed for the rest of the afternoon because it was a crime scene.
“Right now, there are more questions than answers. Hopefully someone can share information with law enforcement,” the alderman said. “I’d like to see the DEA get involved and find out who is responsible for bringing this poison into our neighborhood.”

“It’s important to note that Lawlor’s had nothing to do with this,” O’Shea added. “It’s a family owned business. They give back to our community and host fundraisers.
