Armed Robber Hits Dollar Stores In Morgan Park, Gresham: COPS

Three dollar store robberies reported in past week. Chicago Police Districts 6 and 22 issue business alert.

CHICAGO, IL -- An armed robber has been targeting dollar stores in the Gresham and Morgan Park neighborhoods. Chicago police issued a business alert for the 6th and 22nd districts. The robberies occurred between 7 and 9 p.m.

The purported robber is described as a male African-American between 40 and 45 years old, 5-feet-9-inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. Witnesses said he was wearing a baseball cap. Incidents occurred on the following dates and locations:

  • Sept. 17, 2017, 1200 block of West 87th St.
  • Sept. 21, 2017, 9300 block of South Ashland Ave.
  • Sept. 23, 2017, 7000 block of South Ashland Ave.

  • Ensure your business has a surveillance system located on the inside and outside.
  • Keep a hold-up alarm system within reach of the cash register
  • Train employees how to deal with robbery situations safely
  • If possible, close your business while waiting for responding officers in order to preserve any evidence left by the offender
  • Be aware of any subjects loitering or watching your business and notify police
  • Never pursue a fleeing assailant, provide the information to police.
  • Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of any suspicious people including any vehicle description and license plate information.
