Armed Robbers Target Lone Victims In Beverly

CHICAGO, IL - A string of armed robbery reports have been made in Beverly and Morgan Park, with three incidents having been reported within the last two days. Chicago police have issued an alert to residents of the 22nd police district, warning them of the trend.

Armed robbery incidents were reported in the 9900 block of South Damen at 9:37 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5, in the 10900 block of South Church at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 6 and in the 2100 block of West 98th Street at 9:40 a.m. that day. Police have also grouped an incident in the 9500 block of South Damen at 10:40 a.m. on Oct. 12 with the recent events.

In all of the above incidents, two African-American men between 14 and 18 years old get out of a car and approach a lone victim. They are armed with hand guns while they demand cell phones and purses from the victims, police say.

The offenders always flee in a getaway car that's believed to be a silver 4-door. They are both described as about 5'5" tall and weighing between 130 and 150 pounds. Two other men were waiting in the vehicle during the robberies, police said.

Police released the following tips to residents who might be approached by the men.

• Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of any suspicious people including any vehicle description and license plate information
• If confronted by the offender, attempt to remain calm

• Keep tracking software and security locks on your cell phone.
• Document serial numbers for your electronics and keep a record at your residence.
• Never pursue a fleeing assailant, provide the information to police.
• Be aware of your surroundings and walk in well-lit areas
