Beverly-Mt. Greenwood 2019 Sex Offender Safety Map

There are 14 sex offenders recorded as living in Mount Greenwood, Beverly and Morgan Park in 2019.

CHICAGO — Before kids go out trick or treating on Halloween, fall is a good time to take an inventory of who is living in your neighborhood. The Beverly, Mount Greenwood and Morgan Park neighborhoods in Chicago currently have 14 registered sex offenders with local addresses listed on the Illinois Sex Offender Registry, most of whom are classified as sexual predators.

In addition to the 14 mapped below, the registry also shows a number of sex offenders who are in prison but their last known address is in the neighborhood, and others have unknown current addresses.

To build this map we searched all sex offenders with the zip codes 60655 (Mount Greenwood) and 60643 (Beverly, Morgan Park) in Chicago. The results showed eight sex offenders with current addresses in Mount Greenwood, including Thomas Felton, who is listed as a murderer. There are a total of 59 sex offenders in the 60643 zip code, but only six with current addresses in Beverly and Morgan Park.

You may want to avoid trick or treating at these houses and apartments on Halloween, or merely be aware of who's living in your neighborhood during the rest of the year.

Law enforcement officials and researchers caution that the registries can play only a limited role in preventing child sexual abuse and stress that most perpetrators are known to the child. The U.S. Department of Justice, which oversees the National Sex Offender Public Website, estimates that only about 10 percent of perpetrators of child sexual abuse are strangers to the child.

The Justice Department estimates 60 percent of perpetrators are known to the child but are not family members but rather family friends, babysitters, child care providers and others, and 30 percent of child victims are abused by family members. Nearly a quarter of the abusers are under the age of 18, the department estimates.
