Beverly Theatre Guild Presents 'Steel Magnolias' Featuring Local Cast

CHICAGO – The Beverly Theatre Guild will hit the boards in its upcoming production of the 1987 stage play, “Steel Magnolias,” the second show of classic offerings for BTG’s 60th anniversary season.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17 and Feb. 18, with a 2 p.m. matinée Feb. 19 in the Baer Theatre at Morgan Park Academy Arts Center, 2153 W. 111th St., Chicago.

Playwright Robert Harling wrote “Steel Magnolias” in ten days, as tribute to his sister, Susan Harling Robinson, who died in 1985 from complications of diabetes 1. Steel Magnolias examines the relationships between a tight-knit group of southern ladies in a small-town beauty parlor, who witness the milestones in each other’s lives. The play is alternately hilarious and touching—and, in the end, deeply revealing of the strength and purposefulness which underlies the antic banter of its characters. This is the beloved play that the famous 1989 movie “Steel Magnolias” (which included famous stars like Dolly Parton and Sally Field) was based on.

The BTG ensemble cast includes Kathryn Cargill (Palos Heights) as Ouiser, Kimberly Dignin (Tinley Park) as Clairee, Susan Kosvick-Andrews (Tinley Park) as Truvy, Rose Murphy (Darien) as Annelle, Stephanie Reusz (Frankfort) as Shelby, and Laurie Videka-Krizka (Homer Glen) as M'Lynn.

It is directed by Julie L. Zebleckis (Bolingbrook) with assistant direction by Sheilah O’Grady (Orland Park). This show is being produced by Wayne Wendell (Beverly) and Tanya Harasym (Oak Lawn).

Adult general admission tickets are $24; BTG members seniors age 60-plus, $22; students (with school ID) and children age 16 and under, $18. A processing fee of $2 is already included in the ticket price.
