Brother Rice Football Season Ends With Championship Game Loss

The Crusaders weren't able to complete a perfect season, falling to Loyola Academy in the IHSA Class 8A state championship game.

CHAMPAIGN, IL - The magic that was the 2018 Brother Rice Crusaders football season came to an end Saturday night in the IHSA Class 8A state championship game. Loyola Academy prevailed, 13-3, in a championship match-up of Chicago Catholic League teams.

A 20-yard field goal from Jack McMahon in the third quarter was the only score the Crusaders put on the scoreboard. After a scoreless first quarter, Loyola had a touchdown and a field goal in the second quarter to take a 10-0 lead at halftime. The Ramblers added a field goal in the second half to ice the game.

The Crusaders finish the season 13-1 and reached their first state championship game in 33 years.
