Caregiver Support Group Focuses On Communication Strategies

Smith Village caregiver support group will focus on communication strategies with dementia patients, Tuesday, July 18.

CHICAGO — Strategies to break through repetition and reduce frustration in communication will be discussed during the Caregiver Support Group at Smith Village, 2320 W. 113th Place, in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood. The group will gather at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 18.

Meetings are planned every third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, in the Smith Village Club Room. The neighborhood meeting is free and open to those who are caregivers in any way for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or another kind of dementia. Alzheimer’s Association volunteers Alice Keane and Bridget Murphy lead the group.

Participants are encouraged to share their own experiences and practical caregiving information, including tips on managing stress and maintaining their own physical and mental health. This group provides a confidential, safe and supportive environment and aims to combat the isolation many caregivers experience.
