CHICAGO – Residents of Beverly and surrounding communities served by the Dan Ryan Woods Forest Preserve are encouraged to help shape the future of the historic Eugene S. Pike House, by completing a short community survey.

The survey was created by the Eugene S. Pike House Foundation, which was established to save and rehabilitate the historic Watchman’s Residence in the Dan Ryan Woods. Once work is completed, the Foundation will turn over operations to the Beverly Area Arts Alliance to create the Pike House Community Cultural Center.

Built in 1894 for Eugene S. Pike, a prominent real estate developer who helped to rebuild Chicago following the Great Fire, the Pike House was designed by noted architect Harry Hale Waterman. The structure is part of the Ridge Historic District, one of the largest urban districts on the National Register of Historic Places, and holds an important spot in the history of Chicago. Since 1921, it has been part of the Dan Ryan Wood Forest Preserve.

Long used as housing for the Dan Ryan Woods watchman, the house has been vacant for several years and had fallen into a serious state of disrepair. The Eugene S. Pike House Foundation and Beverly Area Arts Alliance are partners in saving and repurposing the house in a way that benefits communities served by the Dan Ryan Woods.

The Eugene S. Pike House Foundation is currently finalizing project specifications for rehabilitation and raising funds in anticipation of beginning work this year. To complete the community survey, find more information and/or donate, visit Pike House or email info.eugenespikehouse@gmail.com.
