DUI Crackdown Planned In Beverly/Morgan Park Saturday Night

Police officers will be throughout the 22nd District looking for drivers who may be impaired.

CHICAGO — Chicago police will be out looking for drunk drivers throughout the 22nd District on the South Side Saturday night. For the second year in a row, the "DUI Saturation Patrol" comes to the Beverly, Mount Greenwood and Morgan Park neighborhoods on the night of the yearly Beverly Art Walk.

The patrol will include roving police officers looking for drivers who may be impaired from 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 to 3 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22. Police will also "place emphasis on speed, alcohol-related and safety belt violations," according to an alert from the Chicago Police Department. Officers on patrol will have both speed detection devices and a breath alcohol testing mobile unit, which could speed up the process of charging a drunk driver with a DUI.

Police publicly announce where they plan to hold the DUI unit on the weekends. There's another one planned for the Austin neighborhood on the West Side on Friday night.

It's important to not drink and drive on Art Walk day or any other day. Call an Uber, Lyft or old-fashioned taxicab if you don't have a sober friend able to drive you home that night.
