Family Fun Day Block Party Wraps Up Summer At Smith Village

CHICAGO — Wrap up the summer with an afternoon of activities and treats at the Family Fun Day block party at Smith Village on 112th Place where the street will be closed between Western and Oakley Avenues, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26. All are welcome.

Smith Village neighbors and families can enjoy an acoustic rock performance by Erik Donner, an opportunity to meet and pet animals who live at the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, face painting, balloon art, caricatures, a cake walk, games and raffles. Purchase tickets for all activities from $1 to $20 for 25 at the Western and Oakley entrances.

Visitors should bring an appetite, too. Misericordia Hearts & Flour Bakery, Joey’s Red Hots Food Truck, Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences Farm Stand and Pierre’s Bakery will be onsite along with food stands selling popcorn, snow cones and tacos.

All proceeds from the event benefit Emilie’s Fund, a program that ensures Smith Village residents, who outlive their means, will never be asked to leave their home, making it possible for them to continue living with dignity and security.
