Funeral Services Set For Martin McGarry

A visitation is planned for Sunday afternoon at St. Barnabas.

CHICAGO, IL - Service information has been set for Martin McGarry, the Chicago boxing legend who operated a USA Boxing-certified gym out of his basement in the city's Beverly neighborhood. McGarry died Wednesday morning at age 66.

A visitation will be held from 3-9 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28 at St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church, 10134 S. Longwood Drive. Family and friends will gather at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 29 at St. Barnabas for a funeral mass. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Evergreen Park.

McGarry, the founder of McGarry's Boxing Club in Beverly, had been battling familial amyloidosis, a hereditary disease. The same disease previously took the life of McGarry's mother, two brothers, uncle and first cousin.
