Garage Burglar Targeting Beverly Homeowners, Police Say

According to the Chicago Police Department, the suspect took tools, bicycles and lawn equipment from the garages he entered.

CHICAGO – The Chicago Police Department is urging homeowners living in the Beverly neighborhood to be vigilant following several recent garage break-ins.

In each incident, police said the suspect broke a window and then entered several garages. Some garages, police said, were unlocked.

According to CPD, the suspect took tools, bicycles and lawn equipment from the garages he entered. Each incident occurred between 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.

The suspect, police said, has targeted the following locations so far:

  • Nov. 5, 2019: 9100 Block of South Bell Ave.
  • Nov. 9, 2019: 9000 Block of South Hamilton Ave.
  • Nov. 11-15, 2019: 8800 Block of South Leavitt St.
  • Nov. 25, 2019: 9300 Block of South Longwood Ave.
  • Nov. 28, 2019: 9000 Block of South Hoyne Ave.

To avoid becoming a victim, police urge homeowners to lock their garage doors and any vehicles inside. Officers also encourage residents to:

  • Register their bicycle online at www.chicagopolice.org or at a police station.
  • Keep all gates locked and yard fences secure
  • Consider installing motion activated lighting on your property
  • Keep a record of serial numbers/makes/models of all valuables
  • Consider installing an alarm system or video surveillance on your property
  • Notify a neighbor, friend or relative if you are planning to be out of town
  • Be aware of your situation and alert neighbors in your area about this crime
  • Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of any suspicious person including any vehicle description and license plate information
