Garage Burglaries Hit Mount Greenwood, East Beverly

22nd District police are investigating two sets of garage burglaries in recent weeks.

CHICAGO, IL -- Police in the 22nd District are investigating two separate strings of garage burglaries in recent weeks, including one set in which unlocked garages were entered in Mount Greenwood. Between August 23 and August 28, four such cases were reported in the neighborhood, according to a police bulletin.

In every case, the offender was spotted walking through an alley in the late-night or early morning hours checking for unlocked gates and garage doors. Reports were made on Aug. 23 in the 11100 block of South Trumbull, Aug. 25 in the 10700 block of Trumbull and on Aug. 26 in the 10500 block of South Sacramento and 10900 block of South Drake.

The culprit has been described as a white man between 20 and 30 years old, 5'11", 200 pounds with short dark hair. In all cases, he entered the unlocked garages and took items from inside.

On the east side of the 22nd District, police are looking for an offender who forcibly entered garages using a pry tool. Nine reports were made between Aug. 13 and Sept. 2 in the 10000 block of South Emerald, 10500 block of South Normal, 300 block of West 107th Street, 10700 block of South Wallace, 10500 block of South Eggleston, 10200 block of South Union and 10200 block of South Morgan.

In these cases, the offender entered through the side or overhead door and took lawn equipment and tools. A police bulletin did not provide a description of an offender in this set of burglaries.
