Chicago’s Henhouse Prowlers perform Sat., Jan. 18, 8 p.m. at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago. The Leadfoot Band opens the Henhouse Prowlers for a great night of bluegrass.
The Henhouse Prowlers play music that’s inspired by the roots of bluegrass while creating a sound that is uniquely their own. From lightning fast picking to sentimental ballads, the Prowlers play original material, traditional songs and contemporary covers.
Ben Wright, banjo player, bought a banjo on a whim in 1999 at the legendary Old Town School of Folk Music. He fell under its spell, mastered bluegrass playing with other bands and, in 2004, became a founding member of the Henhouse Prowlers.Also a founding member of the Henhouse Prowlers, bass player Jon Goldfine was born to a trombone playing father and an opera singing mother. He first learned the stand up bass in his junior high school orchestra, and has performed in jazz, rock, and funk as well as folk and bluegrass bands.

Dan Andree’s musical education began with nine years of Suzuki method classical violin lessons with the head of the Northern Illinois University string program, Ann Montzka-Smelser. While enrolled University of Illinois, he turned his talent to bluegrass, playing with the Corn Desert Ramblers.
Starr Moss originally played electric guitar but switched to acoustic after discovering Celtic and bluegrass music in high school. Before joining the Henhouse Prowlers, he played in several Milwaukee-based Celtic and bluegrass bands.

The Prowlers push the envelope of bluegrass with their highly original songwriting and tight arrangements. Their most recent album, “Breaking Ground,” was produced by Greg Cahill, the Grammy-nominated band-leader of Special Consensus.
The band will be headed to Europe in 2014 for their largest tour abroad to date.
Chicago-based bluegrass/newgrass quartet The Leadfoot Band was founded on almost a decade ago. Their influences range from The Band to Hank Williams, Sam Bush to Metallica, Split Lip Rayfield to Lou Reed -- and everything in between. Re-formed in 2011 after a five-year hiatus, they are pushing their hard-driving, high-octane brand of bluegrass, roots, and rock-influenced acoustic music farther than before. The Leadfoot Band lineup is Steve Haberichter on mandolin, Mike Vanier on acoustic guitar, Garrett 'Geebs' Degnan on bass, and Mike Holtz on drums.
