Family Dog Killed in Morgan Park House Explosion

The residents of the home were not present at the time of the blast.

Homeowners are safe, but a family dog is dead following a natural gas house explosion and house fire in the Morgan Park neighborhood Tuesday morning.

Crews were replacing water mains in the 2100 block of W. 107th Place around 8:30 a.m., when they reportedly struck a gas line, DNAInfo reports. Homes within a 1-mile radius were evacuated, and firefighters opened all windows to ventilate the buildings.

The home that exploded was owned by a teacher at Sutherland Elementary School in Beverly, who DNAInfo reports lives there with her son—a student at St. Rita High School—and two other children currently away at college.
