Man Shot In Morgan Park During Struggle Over Gun With Police
The man was transported to Advocate Christ in "extremely critical condition." A comprehensive force review underway, Chicago police said.

CHICAGO — A man is in extremely critical condition after he was shot in Morgan Park late Friday afternoon during a struggle over a gun with 22nd District police officers, Chicago police said in a statement.
Around 5:30 p.m., police officers said they spotted a man with a gun on the sidewalk. Officers attempted to stop the man when he fled into a residence. As officers chased the man when a struggle ensued, at which time the man sustained a gunshot wound.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition. No police officers were injured in the incident. A gun was recovered at the scene and police are investigating.

Interim CPD Superintendent Fred Waller said during a news conference that the man was apparently shot when he and police fought over control of the gun.
“Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, then struggled with this subject over this weapon, and two shots were fired,” Waller said.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford described the man as being in “extremely critical condition” when being transported to Christ Medical Center, news reports said.
Currently, the specifics of this incident, including the comprehensive use of force investigation, are being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability with the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department.
The officer or officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a period of 30 days.
