Mark Erzen, MPA Teacher And Coach, Dies

Mark Erzen died after recently retiring from Morgan Park Academy as a teacher and coach, which followed 35 years of working in law.

CHICAGO, IL -- A recently retired teacher and coach at Morgan Park Academy died last week. Officials at the Pre-K through 12 school are mourning the loss of Mark D. Erzen of Beverly, who died on Aug. 2. He was 63.

“We were stunned and incredibly saddened to lose Mark,” said Jim Reedy, director of community relations at Morgan Park Academy.

Erzen was a full-time member of the school’s math department faculty for the past two years and also coached the boys and girls tennis teams at the school. Before that, he served the school as a substitute teacher while working as an attorney, which he did for 35 years according to an obituary from Curley Funeral Home.

Reedy said Erzen first joined the MPA community as the father of alums Christa (2004) and Robert Erzen (2007).

“He will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor and his love of learning and sharing knowledge,” his obituary states.

A visitation will be held at Curley Funeral Home, 6116 W. 111th Street in Chicago Ridge from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12. Donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PAWS Chicago or a charity of choice.
