McAuley loses bid for 16th state championship in tough loss in IHSA girls volleyball final against Aurora's Metea Valley.
NORMAL, IL — Congratulations to Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School on a great volleyball season. Coming off a weird pandemic year, the Mighty Macs’ return gave us all a sense of normalcy. You demonstrated class,grace and sportsmanship on and off the court. Thanks for all the thrills and chills. We can’t wait to see what you do next year (and what creative themes your loyal student section comes up with).
Mother McAuley’s bid for a 16th state championship was thwarted Saturday night by Metea Valley High School for the Class 4 state championship in the IHSA finals. The Mighty Macs lost two out of three sets in the state title match.
McAuley rolled over Metea Valley in the first set, taking the first set 25-15. But Metea Valley roared back to take the second set, beating the Macs with serving and winning long volleys, 25-18.

Metea Valley’s momentum continued in the third set, with the Mustang’s outside hitter Kira Hutson outdoing the Macs in kills. It was the Mustangs’ set overpowering the Macs, 25-17.
