McAuley Mothers Club Collecting Gently Used Formals for Prom Dress Consignment Sale

CHICAGO, IL -- Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School Mothers Club is collecting gently used formals for a consignment sale to assist high school students who may not otherwise be able to afford their upcoming proms.

Community members may drop off dresses from noon to 4 p.m. on Jan. 21 and Jan. 22 at McAuley’s circular drive entrance at 3737 W. 99th St., Chicago. These are the ONLY days that dresses will be accepted.

Dresses should be laundered and/or dry cleaned and free of defects. This is consignment sale, so 75 percent of sales go back to seller/door, with the remaining 25 percent of each dress sold going directly to McAuley’s student scholarship fund. Community members can also donate dresses outright.

• Sellers will receive a number referencing their dress/dresses.
• Sellers will complete a form with their personal information and brief description of the dress/dresses.
• Tags will be affixed to each dress.
• If your dress doesn’t sell, sellers will be contacted to come up their items no later than 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29.
• Sellers will receive checks for their consignment items within ten business days.

Sellers can name their price for the dress/dresses but should keep in mind that the overall goal is to sell the items. The prom dress resale will take place at the following times and dates:

• 3 to 6 p.m. Jan. 27, MCAULEY STUDENTS ONLY.
• 6 to 8 p.m., Jan. 27, open to the public.
• 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Jan. 28, open to the public.

Unsold dresses that are not picked up will be donated to Lydia House, which provides a home for at-risk children as an alternative to the foster care program.

The McAuley Mothers Club is also collecting gently used suits, dress pants and sports jackets for the boys at Lydia House. For more information about the consignment sale, contact kanrow2020@gmail.com
