Merrionette Park Says No To Home Rule
Voters in Merrionette Park decided that the village will not become a home rule community.

MERRIONETTE PARK, IL - Voters in Merrionette Park said no to a referendum that was placed on the ballot regarding home rule. Residents of the near south suburb voted to the tune of 67 percent against becoming a home rule community.
In total, 280 votes were cast against home rule while 141 votes were made in favor of the possibility. Only 425 ballots were cast out of 1,219 registered voters in the village. That's a 34.86 percent turnout, according to the Cook County Board of Elections.
Cities, villages and towns with populations of more than 25,000 are automatically equipped with home rule authority. Those with less residents have the option of voting on it.
