Metra Train Clips Unoccupied Van On Rock Island Line

Service may be delayed up to 20 minutes for inbound and outbound trains due to a Metra train hitting a vehicle near Marshfield and 111th.

CHICAGO — A Metra train clipped an unoccupied van on the Rock Island line Tuesday morning, Chicago Fire Department officials said.

Metra said an inbound Rock Island train #404 hit the vehicle at 111th Street near Marshfield Avenue. The train was scheduled to arrive in Chicago’s LaSalle Street station at 6:57 a.m.

CFD officials said the van was unoccupied and the driver accounted for. No injuries were reported.
The #404 train is operating past 111th Street on the South Side. Passengers were being moved to a replacement train, CFD officials said.

"Train #300 accommodated the 210 passengers that were on board train #404," a Metra spokesperson told Patch. "Train #401 ran down the Beverly line to avoid the incident and train #302 had a platform change."

Inbound and outbound Rock Island trains may be delayed up to 20 minutes.
