Metra Worker Hospitalized After 'Incident' In Beverly

Metra officials confirmed one employee was hospitalized after an incident near the 99th Street - Beverly Hills Rock Island station.

CHICAGO, IL - A Metra employee who was working on a project at the Rock Island tracks in Beverly Sunday afternoon was hospitalized after an incident that was reported near the 99th Street station.

A Metra spokeswoman did not have any specific details on the incident other than to confirm an incident occurred and that the worker was taken to the hospital. Neither the worker's condition nor which hospital he or she was taken to was known as of late Monday afternoon.

Several Beverly neighborhood residents reported hearing a loud boom, possible an explosion, around 12:30 p.m. A report in a social media neighborhood group that a propane tank exploded was not confirmed by the Metra spokeswoman.

Residents reported hearing the noise from several different parts of Beverly, Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood, including 114th and Talman, 103rd and Hale and 105th and Whipple.

Metra Rock Island trains were not running through the Beverly Branch on Saturday or Sunday as a project to repair ties on the railroad was taking place.

The spokeswoman said she did not believe this injury occurred during that project but during a separate one occurring near the tracks. No trains were delayed as a result of this.

"To my understanding, the incident did not occur on the tracks," she said.
