Officer Dies of Injuries in Off-Duty Motorcycle Crash

Chicago police officer was resident of Mt. Greenwood. Driver of other vehicle that collided with officer's motorcycle cited in crash.

A Chicago police officer who was off-duty when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle while on his way to work Monday afternoon has died.

Officer Jonathan Ho, 35, was taken in grave condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center, in Oak Lawn, where he died of his injuries.

The Cook County medical examiner was notified of Ho’s death Thursday evening.

The accident happened in the 9500 block of South Vincennes Avenue when a car pulled in front of the officer. A police source told the Chicago Sun-Times the officer works in the 6th District.

Welton Crayton, 62, of the car was cited for failure to yield, driving on a suspended license and driving an uninsured motor vehicle, police told the Chicago Tribune.

Ho had been with the Chicago Police Department since 2004 and was a resident of Mt. Greenwood.
