Original Rainbow Cone Painted Orange
Drivers on Western Avenue may have noticed a new look to the Original Rainbow Cone.

CHICAGO - Paint crews have been on site at the Original Rainbow Cone in recent weeks giving the legendary building its latest paint job. Beverly neighborhood residents and drivers along Western Avenue may have noticed a color change in the building after the paint job. It now looks orange while a few weeks ago it appeared to be pink.
The pink look will return, in time, after it fades from the sun Original Rainbow Cone General Manager Bryan Feltman said. The original color of the building was orange.
Lynn Sapp, owner of the Chicago institution that's been at the corner of 92nd and Western for 93 years, said her grandmother's favorite color was "Pepto Bismal pink," and that the color of the building has changed from orange to pink a few times over the years.

The fading that comes from the sun has been more rapid recently, Sapp noted, after the removal of the trees across the street that went hand-in-hand with the Evergreen Park development that now includes big box stores like Meijer and Menard's.
Feltman said Rainbow Cone is painted roughly every 10 years.
