Those hankering for a Beverly favorite wonโ€™t have to wait much longer.

The Original Rainbow Cone, 9233 S. Western Ave., re-opens Saturday, March 7 at noon for its summer season. The first 50 customers through the line Saturday will receive a T-shirt.

โ€œIf you canโ€™t wait until March 7, weโ€™ll officially be open March 6 at noon,โ€ staff wrote on the ice cream shopโ€™s Facebook page.

Original Rainbow Cone was founded in 1926 by Joseph and Katherine Sapp. It was purchased in the โ€˜80s by their granddaughter Lynn, who has expanded Rainbowโ€™s business to participating in summer events like the Taste of Chicago, Lollapalooza and local neighborhood festivals.

One of the South Sideโ€™s most cherished sweet treats, itโ€™s an ice cream cone piled high with five flavors: chocolate, strawberry, Palmer house, pistachio and orange sherbet.

In March, the shop will be closed Monday and Tuesday and open from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
