As many of you will be travelling to downtown Chicago to shop for the holidays, make a stop at the Chicago Cultural Center (Located at 78 E Washington) to visit this amazing building and to also see the Paul Natkin photo exhibit. The exhibit titled, “Shutter to Think: The Rock & Roll Lens of Paul Natkin” is on display in the first floor Garland Gallery.
Paul Natkin is one of Chicago’s greatest music photographers and hails for the Rogers Park neighborhood. I visited the exhibit about 2 weeks ago and highly recommend stopping in to see it. On display are photos of the Bonnie Raitt, Eddie Vedder, Buddy Guy, Iggy Pop & Joey Ramone, Madonna, & Pete Townshend (not sure what to make of Townshend’s striped pants but Natkin’s flying in the air picture is perfect!) just to name a few. Make sure you stop at the Rolling Stone band shot. Position yourself between Charlie Watts & Keith Richards and have your friend snap a picture of you. You will look like you are with the band. Make sure you strike a rock star pose too!! Your friends on facebook will love it!
The exhibit also contains video segments of Paul Natkin explaining how he got some of these pictures taken. There is a great wall full of all the album covers he photographed as well. Natkin’s photos have graced Rolling Stone, Circus, Time, etc. He also spent time as the official photographer for the Rolling Stone tours. This exhibit runs through January 4, 2014 and it’s free!!
