Suspect's Relative Tossed Slain Officer's Gun Out Window: Reports
A relative of the suspect in Officer Huesca's shooting death tried to get rid of the slain officer's gun during search, prosecutors said.

CHICAGO — New details emerged in a detention hearing for a 20-year-old Morgan Park man who is related to the suspect being sought in the shooting death of a Chicago Police Officer Luis Huesca, who was laid to rest earlier this week.
Caschaus Tate appeared Tuesday in a Markham courtroom for allegedly violating his pretrial release after he picked up a new gun charge following a search of his home Friday near 108th Street and Hale Avenue in Morgan Park. Tate had earlier been released pending his trial for an unrelated burglary charge.
The Morgan Park man is related to Xavier Tate Jr., 22, who police have named as a suspect in the deadly shooting of Office Luis Huesca. The officer was in uniform when he was gunned down in the early morning hours of April 21 returning home from work. The officer’s vehicle, badge and service weapon were stolen during the robbery, police said.

Investigators traced Xavier Tate’s steps, who had taken an Uber five hours after Huesca’s shooting from 55th Street and Morgan to his relative’s home near 108th Street and Hale Avenue, prosecutors said, ABC 7 Chicago reported. Police have not yet said how the two are related.
When officers arrived at Caschaus Tate’s residence, prosecutors said he let police into his living room. He left to go to his room where he told police that his girlfriend was in there naked, news reports said.

An officer watching the residence from outside saw Caschaus climbing onto the roof and tossing a 9mm Glock handgun out the window and into a neighbor’s yard. The prosecutor said that the gun was identified as Huesca’s service revolver.
The judge revoked Cashaus Tate’s pretrial release on the burglary charge, who is facing a new charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. His next hearing is May 15 in the Markham Courthouse.
During Tuesday's dedication of Mother McAuley High School’s new turf athletic field, Ald. Matt O’Shea (19th Ward) told Patch that police are closing in on Xavier Tate.
“They’re going to get him sooner rather than later,” O’Shea said. “The FBI is throwing a lot of assets at the investigation.”
A $100,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Xavier Tate’s arrest and conviction. Those with information that could help authorities in their investigation can also leave a tip at CPDtip.com. Tips can be filed anonymously.
