Residents Carjacked In Their Driveways

Vehicles brazenly carjacked from driveways in Mt. Greenwood and Morgan Park by young teens, including a child, Chicago police said.

CHICAGO — Chicago police are alerting the Mount Greenwood and Morgan Park neighborhoods of two aggravated carjackings that happened Nov, 15 and Nov. 19.

Police said in both cases, the residents parked their vehicles in their driveways when several youths brandishing guns jumped out of a presumed getaway car. Police said surveillance video showed the young teens demanding the residents’ vehicles and belongings. The youths fled in the residents’ vehicles and the getaway car at the following times and locations:

• Nov. 15, 2021 8 p.m., 11600 block of South Oakley Ave.
• Nov. 19, 2021 1 p.m., 11000 block of South Harding Ave.

In the latter incident, a 56-year-old woman and her 36-year-old daughter were getting groceries out of their red Alfa Romeo SUV in the driveway on Harding Avenue, when two young teens seemingly appeared out of nowhere. One of them pointed a gun directly at the woman and demanded to the SUV.

The woman told CBS 2 Chicago that “a little boy” who appeared to be 10 years old got out of the second vehicle and joined in the armed robbery. The purported carjackers fled in the woman’s SUV and the getaway car. The woman and her daughter were not injured.

The three to four male blacks are described as young teens wearing all black clothing.

Chicago police are asking area residents to check their home surveillance systems and share anything that might help police with their investigation. Anyone with information about these crimes or have video, call CPD Area Two Detectives at 312-747-8273. Additional police resources have been bolstered in the area of the carjackings.
