CHICAGO — Edith Huesca, mother of fallen Chicago Police Officer Luis Huesca, asked state officials to deliver a message to Mayor Brandon Johnson that he would not be welcome at her son’s funeral on Monday.

The 30-year-old officer was gunned down in uniform returning home from work in the early morning hours of April 21 near his home in Gage Park.

Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza sent out a tweet stating that the young officer’s grief-stricken mother asked her and Rep. Angelica Guerrero Cueller during her son’s visitation Sunday at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home to tell Johnson not to attend the funeral at St, Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel.
