South Siders Show Their Pride At South Side Irish Parade: Gallery

Another South Side Irish Parade for the record books. Were you there?

CHICAGO, IL — Everyone was Irish at the South Side Irish Parade on Sunday, featuring a promenade of parishes, pols, pipers and some leprechaun-assisted wedding proposals. The 41st annual celebration of St. Patrick driving the snakes out of Ireland stepped off at noon from 99th Street and Western Avenue and proceeded all the way to 115th Street.

The well-behaved crowd of thousands wore their finest greenery, featuring an array of green hair, orange bears, crazy sunglasses and even a green dog. Ald. Matt O’Shea (19th) walked the parade route with Gov. J.B. Pritzker. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin and Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-3) were handing out candy to the children lining the parade route.

Chicago mayoral candidate Lori Lightfoot marched with IBEW Local 134. Cook County Commissioner John Daley (10th District) and Ald. Patrick Daley Thompson (11th), a dead ringer for grandfather Richard J, Daley, promenaded together with the Thompson-Daley Clan.

The other mayoral candidate -- Toni Preckwinkle was a no-show. Lightfoot has earned O’Shea’s endorsement as a “straight shooter.”
