SXU Celebrates Homecoming Saturday With Alumni Tailgate And Game

CHICAGO, IL - Homecoming is this weekend at Saint Xavier University. Events are planned throughout the day on Saturday for alums, both local and from afar, to celebrate their Cougar pride. SXU Alumni Relations released the full slate of activities for Saturday, Oct. 19. All activities take place on Saint Xavier’s Chicago campus at 3700 W. 103rd St.

Prior to the homecoming kickoff, join Dr. Keith Elder, 22nd president of Saint Xavier University, in the Butler Room for some scones and coffee. “A Conversation With Dr. Elder” takes place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Dr. Elder was named president in March and will share his vision of higher education and how to incorporate it into the mission of the university. Register in advance.

Wear your SXU gear and head to Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field for a noon kickoff. Saint Xavier University alumni from all eras and graduating classes are invited to tailgate at the Cougars homecoming game from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The first 150 alumni to check in on game day will receive free SXU Alumni swag.

Early bird registration for $15, allows alumni entry into the game and tailgate tent which includes food, beer and beverages (kids aged ten and under are free). Game day admission is $20 for the tent, plus $5 to attend the game. Alumni must be 21+ to enter the tailgate tent unless accompanied by an adult. Purchase advance tailgate tickets here.

The 4-2 Saint Xavier Cougars play host to the 4-1 University of St. Francis-Illinois Fighting Saints. Kick-off is at noon.

SXU's all-time record against St. Francis is 25-1, and the Cougars’ all-time record for homecoming is 18-12.

SXU has played St. Francis on homecoming four times in 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2014, winning every game.
