SXU Partners With Country House Kitchen to Bring Healthy Food Choices to Campus

Alsip-based kitchen service focuses on made-from-scratch foods made with locally-sourced ingredients.

Chicago, IL -- A popular, local kitchen service provider is freshening up the menu at Saint Xavier University’s Chicago campus.

SXU is partnering with Alsip-based Country House Kitchen to to provide healthy, fresh food options for students on the go, who may not always find the time to eat, and more specifically, eat well.

The family-owned kitchen service provider specializes in made-from-scratch recipes, using natural ingredients purchased from local farms. Country House Kitchen focuses on limiting sugars, salts and unhealthy fats, while incorporating meats, purchased from local businesses within the community that are not pre-packaged or processed products. The food service also offers a wide variety of natural gluten free options for students.

“With today’s emphasis on unhealthy eating habits, obesity, and the long-term effects of early childhood and adolescent nutrition, we sought to make a difference,” said Paul Boundas, owner and executive chef at Country House Kitchen.

In addition to operating out of its restaurant at 5400 W. 127th St., Alsip, the Boundas family has been provided on-site service to many other schools and organizations in the community, including Morgan Park Academy, P.L.A.I.D. Academy, St. Rita High School, Marian Catholic High School, Mount Carmel High School, Holy Trinity Catholic High School, Brother Rice High School, Elim Christian Services, St. Paul Lutheran, St. Laurence High School, and Timothy Christian Schools.

Starting this fall, Country House Kitchen will be operating the Warde Academic Centre dining hall and the new “Cougar Fuel” smoothie cafe at the Shannon Center, located on the Chicago campus at 3700 W. 103rd St. As with all SXU amenities, both are open to the public.

Country House Kitchen will also be taking over the SXU-owned restaurant, Gilhooley’s Grande Saloon, at 3901 W. 103rd St., Chicago.
