SXU Plans Black History Month Events And Exhibits Throughout February
SXU is hosting events and exhibits throughout the month of February celebrating the achievements and accomplishments of African Americans.
CHICAGO – Celebrate a variety of fun and educational events for Black History Month with Saint Xavier University this February. Students, staff, faculty and the community are invited to participate in activities that will foster meaningful conversations and celebrate the remarkable achievements and contributions made by the Black community.
"Each year, the Office of Inclusive Excellence and Student Life look forward to highlighting Black History Month as an important time of celebrating the rich history of Black Americans,” said Natalie Page, Ed.D., vice president of success and inclusion at SXU. “The activities the Black History Month committee has created serve as a catalyst for transformative learning, encouraging our students to engage in meaningful dialogue, broaden perspective and forge meaningful connections.”
Black History Month Library Display
All month long, the Robert and Mary Rita Murphy Stump Library will display curated works selected by librarians, faculty, staff and students, ranging from children's books and literature to scholarly monographs.

Live Music and Poetry Jam Session – February 8, 15, 22 and 29
Stop by the SXU Diner Atrium for poetry and music by Sunshine Lombré and Tracy Baker '21 with the Master Collection to share Black history through Black music from noon to 2 p.m.
Food For the Soul – February 8, 15, 22 and 29
Every Thursday in February, the SXU Diner will serve a special menu curated for Black History Month.

Black Down Memory Lane – February 16 to March 4
Walk through the decades and continue through the new millennium in the Butler Reception Room.
Black Student Union Annual Fashion Show – February 27
Join SXU Black Student Union for the annual fashion show in McGuire Hall at 4:30 p.m.
What Does Black History Month Mean to You? - February 29
Stop by the SXU Diner at noon to join SXU's Keiana Winters, Ph.D., for an engaging conversation about Black history.
10th Annual African American Achievement Awards – March 1
Join SXU for the 10th Annual African American Achievement Awards, which recognize the contributions and achievements of Black students, faculty and staff at SXU. Guests are encouraged to dress in all black attire with their favorite sneakers. The event takes place at 5 p.m. in the Butler Reception Room.
"By coming together to participate, our campus community not only honors the richness of Black history but actively shapes a more enlightened and united future, which I believe fosters a sense of belonging and shared responsibility for a diverse and inclusive campus environment," Page said.
