Teen Charged In Attempted Armed Robbery Of Off-Duty Cop
Police have charged a 16-year-old boy with the attempted armed robbery of a police officer at 101st and Bell earlier this month.

CHICAGO, IL - A 16-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the attempted armed robbery on an off-duty police officer that brought a heavy police presence and a helicopter to search for the offender to Beverly on Dec. 1. The suspect was found and apprehended on Wednesday in the 7300 block of South Carpenter Street in the city's Gresham neighborhood, 19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea wrote in an email to residents.
The officer was walking in the 10100 block of South Bell around 7 p.m. on Dec. 1 when he was approached by an armed suspect who demanded money, according to O'Shea. The victim responded by firing shots at the offender, who fled the area toward Western Avenue and was last seen that night in the parking lot of the Plaza shopping center in Evergreen Park.
The boy has been charged with one count of attempted robbery with a firearm and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, according to a report from CBS-Chicago.
