Train Strikes, Kills Man In West Beverly

A man was killed early Sunday morning after he was hit by a CSX train near 102nd and Maplewood.

CHICAGO, IL -- A man was struck and killed by a freight train near 102nd and Maplewood early Sunday morning. The death appears to have been a suicide, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The man was struck by the train at 3:43 a.m., first responders confirmed to CSX railroad officials. The man's identity has not been released as of 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The CSX train that struck the man was headed from Chicago to North Baltimore, Ohio and had two locomotives and 23 cars.

"Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this tragic event,” Rob Doolittle, assistant vice president of media and communications for CSX Transportation, said.
