Trio of Burglars Drop Loot in Resident's Yard: Police

Resident called to report "suspicious" individuals in yard as security alarm activated in mobile phone store, police said.

Three men lurking in a resident’s backyard were arrested with merchandise they had stolen from an AT&T Store, police said.

A resident called 911 around 3 a.m. Tuesday to report three suspicious individuals in a backyard in the 9500 block of South Claremont Avenue.

At the same time, a security alarm was tripped at the AT&T store at 9527 S. Western Ave.

Police responded to the scene in minutes, where they pursued and captured the three individuals. Stolen merchandise from AT&T store was found the backyard and the suspects’ vehicle, police said.

According to police, security footage from the store’s in-store camera showed the suspects taking merchandise from the store.

Arrested and charged with felony burglary are:

  • Michael Clark, of the 7400 block of South Normal Avenue;
  • Joe Brown, of the 7500 block of West 63rd Place;

Police also charged Mario McCarter, of the 9200 block of South Blackstone Avenue, with misdemeanor criminal trespassing.

The three men remain in custody awaiting bond hearings. All three have extensive criminal backgrounds, police said.
