Watch Marist Alum Pat McGann's Standup Comedy on 'Letterman'

McGann brought the funny in a big way Friday.

Another ‘Letterman’ performance in the bag for Pat McGann, and if he was nervous, he didn’t show it.

The Morgan Park native and Marist alum delivered a stellar set in Friday’s airing of the “Late Show with David Letterman.”

Though his second appearance on the show, it was just as special for McGann, who as a young comedian idolized Letterman.

“Letterman is definitely a comedy role model,” McGann said. “My parents have always liked him, especially my Mom, so I can remember watching him as a kid and being drawn to the fact that he didn’t take anything too seriously. Everything was game to make fun of—in a thoughtful way, though.”

“I love how quick he is when he’s interacting with guests or the audience. As I got older I realized that he was able to do that because he was a good listener & never forced the funny—he just let it come to him. I like to try & do that when I do crowd work at a show or lead discussions.”

McGann’s set touched on life as a married couple with three children under the age of three—and the quirks that go along with it. His appearances on the show “are at the top of my comedy résumé,” McGann said.

“ It’s hard to imagine anything replacing that,” he said..” It was always the one show I wanted to do andit will always be the most special because David Letterman was someone I looked up to.

Since it was the first big break I got it also validated me as a comedian and having that validation is incredible.”
