28-Year-Old Killed In Hit-And-Run On I-55 In Bolingbrook: Coroner

Police said two people were outside of their vehicle because they ran out of gas.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — A 28-year-old woman from Chicago was killed in a hit-and-run incident early Friday on northbound Interstate 55, according to Illinois State Police.

State troopers responded to milepost 267 at 3:23 a.m. Friday, for the fatal crash. Police said a vehicle was pulled over on the right shoulder, and the driver and one passenger stepped out of the car and were standing close to lane 3.

Police said the two people were out of their vehicle because they ran out of gas.

The driver and passenger were struck by a truck tractor semi-trailer, which fled the scene, police said.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, identified by the Will County Coroner's Office as Perla Andrade-Garcia, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The coroner's office said Andrade-Garcia was struck by a passing semi-truck outside a vehicle she previously occupied, about 1/4 mile south of I-355. An autopsy was completed on Friday; the final cause and manner of death is pending police, autopsy and toxicological reports.
