I-55 Crash: Driver Killed When Semis Collide on I-55 in Southwest Suburbs
Backups for miles: Fatal accident causes lane closures early Tuesday.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Two semi trucks and several cars collided on I-55 early Tuesday morning in a fatal smashup that claimed one life and blocked the interstate for hours during the morning commute. As of 9 a.m., all inbound lanes were re-opened to traffic, but the backup stretched for miles.
The crash happened around 3:20 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Route 53, according to state police. Cars slid into the trucks after they careened out of control. The vehicles reportedly slid on highway ice.
William A. Hansen Jr., 60, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, died at the scene, according to the Will County coroner’s office. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.

Travel delays continued through the morning as the accident scene was cleared. As cars were rerouted onto Route 53, Weber Road and U.S. 30, significant traffic built up on those surface roads this morning.
