The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.
Continuing fiscal responsibility. Work with fellow board members and staff to maintain the budget in a responsible manner; maintain park district's assets and keep programs viable; and look for state grant opportunities to benefit our parks.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
As a commissioner for eight years I have served as Secretary, Vice-President and President, which give me an in depth understanding of how the park district runs. I'm a good listener. I will listen to the citizens and work with fellow board members and district staff and hold myself and others accountable. I will make decisions based on what is best for the Bolingbrook Park District. I am extremely proud of our professional staff and the long term plans for our parks.
Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform:
If re-elected, I will continue to work with the Board and staff members during these difficult economic times to approve fiscally-responsible budgets that put residents first without sacrificing quality. I feel strongly that it is important that the board and staff continue to work as a team in order to best serve our community.
If you gain this position, what accomplishment would define your term in office as a success?
I don't believe one single accomplishment can define you as being successful in this position.
Please share with voters a story about wisdom gained from a mistake you made in your life or career.
I don't believe in mistakes - only lessons learned. You live, you learn, you move on and you try again. The truth is mistakes mean I am still human with room to grow.
Why should voters trust you?
I believe it is important to serve the community. I take the responsibility of being a dedicated public servant seriously. I apply common sense principles in my decision-making, and work diligently and cooperatively with my colleagues to find common ground that serves the best interests of all residents. I believe in consensus and working together to implement policies and programs which will benefit all the residents. It would be an honor and privilege to represent the residents of Bolingbrook for another term as a park district commissioner.
Share a quote that defines your philosophy:
"Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough."
What questions should be asked of current government employees accountable to your board?
It's important for staff to continue to follow the district's mission and vision. Questions specific to providing world-class park and recreation services in a fiscally responsible manner are most important.
Explain your attitudes toward fiscal policy, government spending and how taxpayer dollars should be handled by your office (or board)?
As a board it is important that we hold staff accountable to utilize financial resources effectively without burdening the taxpayers.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
Finishing a marathon has taught me several life lessons that apply to handling any job: be prepared and work hard to be successful.; setbacks are part of the journey; embrace obstacles; celebrate successes no matter how big or small.
The best advice ever shared with me was ...
Treat others how you want to be treated!
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I am a proud resident of Bolingbrook who wants the best for our community. I look forward to the opportunity to continue my work and ensure that Bolingbrook continues to be the best place to live, learn and have fun!
