1 Dead, 2 Injured In Crash On I-55 In Bolingbrook: Police

Three vehicles were involved in the crash, which happened at 5:01 a.m. on Tuesday on Interstate 55 southbound near Joliet Road.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — A 22-year-old from Bensenville died after a crash early Tuesday, according to Illinois State Police. Three vehicles were involved in the crash, which happened at 5:01 a.m. on Tuesday on Interstate 55 southbound near Joliet Road.

According to police, one of the vehicles, a Nissan Pathfinder, was stationary on the left shoulder of I-55. Another vehicle, a Chevrolet Equinox, was also stationary behind the Nissan, and was partially in the left lane of traffic, police said.

A third vehicle, a GMC Sierra, struck the rear of the Chevrolet, causing it to hit the rear passenger side of the Nissan, police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet and the occupants of the Nissan were outside the vehicles during the crash, police said. Three passengers of the Chevrolet had life-threatening injuries and were taken to an area hospital where one passenger, Arnoldo Garcia, was pronounced dead, police said.

The southbound lanes of I-55 were closed for three hours for investigation, police said. The events surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
