Three Bolingbrook Students Awarded College-Sponsored Merit Scholarships

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Three students from Bolingbrook were among over 2,500 winners of a College-Sponsored National Merit Scholarship, which was announced Wednesday by the corporation.

Bolingbrook's awardees were:

• Joshua Irwin, from Bolingbrook High School, was awarded the National Merit Wheaton College scholarship. Joshua has a probable career field of computer engineering.
• Samira Koduri, a student at Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, was awarded the National Merit Case Western Reserve University scholarship. Samira has a probable career field of medicine.
• Robert Yang, a student at Neuqua Valley High School was awarded the National Merit Emory University scholarship. Yang has a probable career field in medicine.

Officials from each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among National Merit Scholarship program finalists, according to a news release. The awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.

Another group of scholars will be announced in July.

By the end of this year's competition, about 6,700 students will have earned scholarships worth about $24 million, according to National Merit.
