DuPage River Restrictions, Several Preserve Trails Closed Due To Flooding

The heaviest rain fell between Interstate 80 and Interstate 88, and the highest totals were over 8 inches of rain, the weather service said.

WILL COUNTY, IL — Boating activity is restricted on the DuPage River, and several forest preserve trails are closed around Will County after the recent heavy rainfall.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has implemented its Restricted Boating Area plan for both the east and west branches of the DuPage River. The plan went into effect at 8 p.m. on Saturday, and will remain in effect "until water levels and navigation conditions return to a safe and manageable state."

On Friday and Saturday, emergency responders had to assist tubers and kayakers caught in a swift current at Hammel Woods and in Naperville.

"If you see someone in distress on the water, call 911 immediately. Do not attempt a rescue yourself unless you have the proper training and equipment," the forest preserve said.

Several preserves and preserve sections are also closed due to flooding, according to the Forest Preserve District of Will County. Closures include:
