BOLINGBROOK, IL — Bolingbrook Park District will keep its Pelican Harbor Outdoor Aquatic Park closed on Friday until at least 3 p.m. due to poor air quality.
The park district said the decision was made "out of continued concern for the health of our residents and staff, especially those most vulnerable to poor air quality."
The park district has also canceled all of its outdoor programing until 3 p.m. including a planned Community Block Party.
An announcement will be made at 2 p.m. deciding if Pelican Harbor will open after 3 p.m., the park district said.
As of 9 a.m. Friday, Bolingbrook's air quality was listed as "hazardous," according to AirNow.gov.
Smoke is expected to clear out later Friday afternoon, as winds push the smoke northeastward, the weather service said. The Illinois EPA and Indiana Department of Environmental Management are maintaining air quality alerts across the area through Friday night, the weather service said.
