BOLINGBROOK, IL — The Village of Bolingbrook will conduct a smoke test of its sanitary sewer system from Sept. 1 through Sept. 4.
The Village said this testing helps crews identify breaks and defects.
Residents shouldn't be alarmed if they see smoke coming from sewer vents, the ground or vent stacks on homes. The smoke is non-toxic, non-staining, white to gray in color and it is not a fire hazard, the Village shared.
To help prevent smoke from entering your home, pour one gallon of water into each floor drain. You only need to do this one time, the Village shared. The smoke should not enter your home unless a drain trap has dried out or there is defective plumbing.
