BOLINGBROOK, IL — Get rid of your Halloween jack-o'-lanterns responsibly with the Forest Preserve District of Will County's Pumpkin Smash event.
The pumpkin smash will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Nov. 7 at Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Bolingbrook.
Pumpkin Smash is spearheaded by SCARCE, and promotes composting and wise use of resources, according to the preserve.
Eventgoers can bring their Halloween pumpkins to smash them, and also enjoy roasting hot dogs and s'mores. Once the pumpkin is smashed, or if you simply want to drop it off, the pumpkins will be taken to McDonald Farm for composting, the preserve said.
No registration is required for this free event.
The preserve advised to remove any candles, wax, and artificial decorations from the pumpkins.
